Taranaki Animal Protection Trust helps protect thousands of animals in the Taranaki region every year.
We step in to help animals who are injured, sick, abused, abandoned or lost.
Cat Rescue
Over the past few years, we've saved more than 500 cats and kittens annually from diverse circumstances - abandoned when owners relocated, discarded at beaches and along roads, or born feral in urban areas and on farms. As we move through this year, we're witnessing a similar pattern with even more cats requiring our intervention.
Although our primary focus is cats, we collaborate with other rescue organizations to help dogs and additional animals
Re-home
TAPT volunteers and foster families work tirelessly to support the cats by giving them the care, environment and the time they need to heal and adjust to life in a loving home. When they are ready to be rehomed, we make sure that they will be a much-loved part of their new family.
Colony Support
We support people who feed and desex abandoned cats (colony mothers) and our volunteers oversee at least 12 different colonies in New Plymouth alone.
Community Support
We support people who know the value and importance of having a family pet, but who struggle to pay the ‘over and above’ expenses by offering discounted desexing and microchipping deals.
Op Shops
We run two Op Shops to support our cause.
